Brand new 1/18 scale diecast car model of Mercedes-Benz 300 SL (W198 II) White with Red Interior Limited Edition to 1500 pieces Worldwide die cast model car by CMC. Limited edition. Brand new box. Real rubber tires. True-to-scale detail. Has steerable wheels. Officially licensed product. Functional doors with sliding windows. Authentic and true to scale shaped body. Manufacturer's original unopened packaging. Made of diecast metal with some plastic parts. Detailed interior, exterior, engine compartment. Has opening frunk, doors and engine compartment. Dimensions approximately L-9.5, W-4, H-2.75 inches. Well-integrated dashboard with a full array of instruments and controls. It almost didn't work out at all: originally a production version of the 300 SL was not planned at Daimler-Benz, but the re-entry into racing with the predecessor vehicle was unexpectedly successful. The rest was contributed by the then importer for the USA, Max Hoffman. He had been calling for a small and a larger, two-seater sports car from Mercedes for some time. As successful as the 300 SL in particular was, Hoffman was dissatisfied. He was the driving force behind providing the gullwing with a more comfortable successor, from 1957 production was switched to the W 198 II roadster, the sales designation 300 SL was retained so the car was built a total of 1858 times until 1963. Not only was the 300 SL considered the fastest production sports car in its time, it also boasted numerous automotive innovations. For the first time, brake power support was offered for the drum brakes, later the switch was made to standard disc brakes on all four wheels. Gasoline direct injection was installed in a production vehicle for the first time and the dry sump lubrication also comes directly from racing. For the first time in a Mercedes passenger car, seat belts can be ordered as an optional extra.
